If your argument is “We don’t know and the physicists at the time don’t know, then God did it”. If that’s your argument, then God is an ever reseeding pocket of scientific ignorance, that is getting smaller, and smaller, and smaller, as time goes on.
Neil Degrasse Tyson

It’s Neil deGrasse Tyson Friday. Here’s what he thinks is the most astounding fact he can think of.

Neil DeGrasse Tyson’s resonse to Bill O’Reilly’s famous “we don’t know how the tides work, God did it”. Amazing!

A day late for women’s day but none the less, Lady’s and Gentlemen I give you the longest running Independent Senator in congressional history, representing the great state of Vermont Bernie “don’t fuck with me” Sanders.

Congress celebrates women’s day yet…

In the 112th congress (our current congress) there are only 91 women present thats 16.8%, 74 in the house, and 17 in the senate. To put it in to perspective there is a total of 435 members of the the house (remember 74  of the are women thats 17%), and 100 members of the senate (again only 17% are women). Now lets look at the US population. There are an estimated 311,591,917 people in the United States in 2011, as of 2010 50.8% of the U.S. population was female (all this info can be found here US Quickfacts). So not even 20% of congress is representing half the population of the United States. hmmm…

“Today, I’m announcing my support for a law that gives same-sex couples in our state the right to receive a marriage license in Washington - the same right given our heterosexual couples. It is time, it is the right thing to do, and I will introduce the bill to make it happen.” - Washington Governor Chris Gregoire.
Gregorie says she will propose legislation to legalize same-sex marriage when the legislative session begins Monday.

[My grandfather] came after having fought in World War I because Mussolini has been in power now for three years and had has figured out that Fascism was something that would crush his spirit and his freedom….And we have two parties that are out talking about how they’re going to solve those problems. One wants to talk about raising taxes on people who have been successful and redistributing money, increasing dependency in this country, promoting more Medicaid and food stamps and all sorts of social welfare programs and passing Obamacare to provide even more government subsidies. More and more dependency, more and more government — exactly what my grandfather left in 1925.

Rick Santorum

Yes, fascism is universal health care. That’s what I remember the most about Mussolini.

(via fearandwar)

Especially because Mussolini didn’t introduce universal health care at all. Lets think about what he did do. He drastically lowered taxes on banking on industry, abolished the tax on luxuries, halved the tax paid by company directors and abolished inheritance tax. He privatized life insurance. He privatized the telephone network. (both of these were previously state owned) He made religious education compulsory in schools. He abolished trade unions. He promised to restore national pride and enforce strict law and order. He banned literature on birth control and increased penalties for abortion.

So yeah, this is what Santorum’s dad was running from - tax breaks for the rich, more power to corporations, religious education, union bashing, nationalism, harsh policing and ‘family values’. Sound familiar?
