Congress celebrates women’s day yet…
In the 112th congress (our current congress) there are only 91 women present thats 16.8%, 74 in the house, and 17 in the senate. To put it in to perspective there is a total of 435 members of the the house (remember 74 of the are women thats 17%), and 100 members of the senate (again only 17% are women). Now lets look at the US population. There are an estimated 311,591,917 people in the United States in 2011, as of 2010 50.8% of the U.S. population was female (all this info can be found here US Quickfacts). So not even 20% of congress is representing half the population of the United States. hmmm…
